The Grove, the outdoor gathering space at 700 Main Street NW that the Village programs as Festival Street, has turned the last four weeks of summer into the densest stretch of recurring community programming on the local calendar. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays, and select Tuesdays all have something scheduled, and most of it is free. The reason to pay attention now is that everything shifts on September 1, when registration opens for the Scarecrow Contest and the summer format at The Grove starts winding down for the season.

The Bourbonnais Township Park District's Scarecrow Contest and Festival, sponsored by St. Mary's Hospital, opens registration on Tuesday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. at the Perry Farm House, with in-person voting on Sunday, September 20. Registration entries sell out quickly. Registrations are taken Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Perry Farm House only, with no online option, and the $30 fee includes the scarecrow frame.
If you have participated in the Scarecrow Contest before, treat September 1 the way you would treat a concert on-sale morning. The frames are limited, the registration window is short, and there is no online back door. Everything happens in person at Perry Farm House between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
